This special webinar, the third in our series on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), focused on UNDRIP and the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII). UNDRIP was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2007 and endorsed by the Australian government in 2009. This webinar took place in the lead up to the UNPFII in New York with the theme of "Implementing the UNDRIP within United Nations Member States and the United Nations system, including identifying good practices and addressing challenges”. Speaking with Professor Claire Charters and Les Malezer, the webinar helped to build understanding of UNDRIP and the role of UNPFII which brings together representatives of Indigenous Peoples from around the world with government representatives. There was a focus on how States around the world are respecting, protecting and fulfilling the rights of Indigenous Peoples to self-determination – and sharing good practices.
