Once upon a time, cigarettes were basically a vitamin. Doctors recommended them. Hollywood glamorized them. "Torches of Freedom" made them a feminist statement. If you didn't smoke, people thought you were ill. Then science figured out they were killing everyone. Approximately 480,000 deaths per year in America alone. New Zealand looked at this history and said "Right, we're done." They banned smoking practically everywhere, put horrific photos on packets, charged $50 a pack, and created a generational ban for anyone born after 2008. Problem solved, right? Except now 11% of adults vape daily, and New Zealand's youth vaping rates are among the highest globally. So we've spent decades convincing everyone that inhaling smoke is bad... only to replace it with inhaling vapor from devices we don't fully understand. In this video, I break down: The golden age when doctors advertised cigarettes The "Torches of Freedom" campaign and how smoking became feminism How Hollywood made cigarettes sophisticated and sexy The great reversal: lawsuits, bans, and horrific packaging New Zealand's nuclear approach to tobacco Why we're probably making the same mistakes with vaping History doesn't repeat itself, but it certainly rhymes. Especially when nicotine is involved. #Smoking #Vaping #PublicHealth #NewZealand #Tobacco #History #Documentary #HealthAwareness
