So you're Interested in the Rebel. We imaging some of the questions you are asking yourself might be. What's New this year, and what type of rider will benefit from this kite? Well this overview should square that up for you. The Rebel is North’s long standing big air freeride kite. In years past people have turned to the rebel looking for that efficient user friendly kite that will jump huge, ride upwind better than your average kite and minimize shake in the bar caused from gusty conditions. So what's new with the 2017 Rebel? For many years now North has been making minor refinements to perfect this cult favorite. In 2016 we saw changes in the aspect ratio throughout the different sizes to optimize performance. In 2017 there are some construction changes that will improve the wind range, the turning, and the durability. As well, North has included a new 15 meter size. This will be a fantastic option for riders over 200 pounds looking to make the most out of their sessions. Wind Range This year North has changed the layout of the panels between the struts. Now instead of having 4 sections we have 8. This makes for a rounder canopy. Resulting in a larger wind range in each size. this means you will spend less time deciding what size to put up and more time riding. This also affects the turning. This year's rendition will have and improved rounded turning radius much like the Neo. Stability As well, due to some strut modification you can expect less flutter in your kite. Further adding to that stable feeling we’ve come to expect from the Rebel. Part of this stability is due to the non optional loaded 5th line. Safety The fifth line is possibly one of the greatest features on all north kites. With it you have the benefit of the 5th line relaunch. Especially helpful on those light wind days. Its nice not having any pull at all from the kite while initiating a self rescue. The one and only drawback to the 5th line is a little bit of standard maintenance. Every 5 sessions or so, North recommends you measure the 5th line. It should be no longer that 1.5 to 2 cm than the front lines. If this is the case simply tie a note in the fifth line near the V to correct the length. Customization The Rebel features an adaptive tip on the wingtip. Here riders can change some of the characteristics of the kite and bar pressure. Riders looking for a harder more direct feel as well as more feedback from the kite can change to the Hard Bar setting. So Who Is The Rebel For? In regards to who this kite is for. Anyone looking for a high performance freeride kite that jumps with next to no effort. People looking for a kite that will ride up wind better than anything in the North lineup. It is exceptionally fun for hooked in freestyle tricks, thanks to consistent feed back from the kite, as well as pull and go boosting. Beginners will benefit, as well as advanced riders looking for a kite that does most of the work for you. All that said, this will be a familiar kite to those of you who fly it.
