Student debt levels have been rapidly increasing over the last several decades and in 2021, the national student loan debt surpassed $1.7 trillion. In light of this trend and with young workers now facing a weakened economy due to the COVID recession, conversations around student loan forgiveness have become a central part of the national policy debate around how to fix the student debt crisis. This panel will outline the nature of the student debt problem and how we got here and will address whether and how student loan forgiveness should be part of the solution. Speakers: Susan Dynarski | Professor of Public Policy, Education, and Economics | University of Michigan Seth Frotman | Executive Director | Student Borrower Protection Center Moderator: Tolani Britton | Assistant Professor | Berkeley Graduate School of Education, UC Berkeley
