Genealogists run across mangled spellings of foreign language names, both given and surnames, because a lot of times, the record taker wrote down what they heard, which may not even be close to the “true” spelling. In this video, I show you how I use Google Translate's pronunciation feature so I can understand how a name was pronounced and how it might have sounded to that record taker.
