Today, we have a small claims hearing with a couple who are suing their former landlords for breach of contract and wrongful eviction after they say that they were illegally locked out of their rental house just 4 days after their lease began, all because they had concerns about the cleanliness and habitability of the home. They claim that not only did the landlord lock them out and terminate their lease, but they also refused to return their security deposit or even send them an itemized list of allowable deductions. They just ignored the whole thing. The landlord claims the tenants are lying and that they were actually the ones who terminated the lease after just 4 days, when they sent them a laundry list of complaints about everything that was wrong with the house and then they refused to move in.
