SCC Concert Chorus sings the second of Debussy’s 85 known and authenticated songs to be published. He wrote most of them between 1880 and 1892. Despite the song’s title (Beautiful Evening), the message of this poem by Paul Bourget, 1852-1935, is that happiness turns to sorrow, life leads to death. Translation of the French (copyright Oxford, 2000, by Richard Stokes) When at sunset the rivers are pink And a warm breeze ripples the fields of wheat, All things seem to advise content— And rise toward the troubled heart; Advise us to savor the gift of life, While we are young and the evening fair, For our life slips by, as that river does: It to the sea—we to the tomb. SCC provides a pre-professional choral experience to students ages 7-18, from diverse backgrounds. Founded by Artistic Director Emeritus Christopher G. Guerra and led by Artistic Director Michael Wu, five performing ensembles promote self-expression in singers, celebrate the diverse musical traditions of our residents, and engage talented youth in joy-filled and uplifting music-making. SCC also performs with professional orchestras, other choral groups, and featured artists in ensemble performances, allowing Strathmore to provide a living, breathing, singing presence in our community. https://www.strathmore.org/community-... #StrathmoreEducation GUEST ARTISTS Tony Thomas, Choreographer Donato Soviero, Guitar Zack Pride, Electric Bass Lenny Robinson, Drum Set Amy Hughes, Percussion ARTISTIC STAFF Michael Wu, DMA, Artistic Director; Apprentice, Concert, and Tenor Bass Chorus Ann Bartlow, Collaborative Pianist, Preparatory, Apprentice and Treble Chorus Alice E.
