TLI: Open Access - Your Academic Advantage

Facilitator: Bailey Lake Open Access publishing is a great way to meet your scholarly publishing goals. It can increase impact factor and number of citations, advance research quickly, support career advancement, and allow professionals and students in your field to access your work without cost barriers. This TLI will take a deeper look at the scholarly communication cycle, explore open access publishing practices, discuss misconceptions about open access, and inform about EKU Libraries’ transformative agreements. Participants will be able to describe the scholarly communication cycle and explain how open access publishing fits within it. Participants will be able to identify common misconceptions about open access publishing and articulate evidence-based responses. Participants will understand EKU Libraries’ transformative agreements and determine how they can be used to meet publishing goals. This session was presented as part of the Teaching and Learning Innovation series at Eastern Kentucky University on October 13, 2025.
