Sao Miguel, Azores, Driving First Day - Sete das Cidades, Caldeira & Town

We rented a car on Sao Miguel and drove around this beautiful island for 2 days. This is part of our first day. PRO TIP: rent the smallest car that you can. The streets are Extremely narrow in a lot of places, even in the city. We visited Caldeira Sete das Cidades where the 2 lakes (Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde) are supposed to be blue on one side and green on the other, but because it was cloudy and raining, we couldn't see the color differences. It was a magnificent view though! The town of Sete Das Cidades is inside the volcano crater. As we drove around, we were so very impressed with how clean everything was, the incredible availability of clean public restrooms, and the number of lovely picnic areas on the side of the roads, not to mention the hydrangea bushes that border the roads. There are a number of scenic lookouts to stop at during the drive, and the road signs are easy to follow. We had a wonderful, inexpensive lunch at Cafe Canto do Cais located at Ra S.
