WINTER IS COMING - Tips to Winterize a Rental

Hi, this is Jenny with Access Property Management Group, and I'm here today to tell you that...winter is coming! OK, I know it's a little dramatic, and really it is and it will happen before we know it. I know in some parts of the country we can get away with free sensors and extra insulation but in the northern climates winterization is a must. So I just want to give you some tips on how to protect your investment property and get it ready for the winter. So the first thing that we do here is we send out and email blast to all of our residents and just remind them to check their furnaces and turn them on before it gets really cold. This does two things. One, it makes your resident happy because they don't have to ever have a super cold weekend and call you in the middle of night freezing, and 2, saves you as investor because you don't have to send out an HVAC personnel as an afterhours emergency call. The next thing that you want to do is schedule your Spring cleanup out. Landscape companies are starting to become very busy, so it's good to do that as soon as possible to get on their schedule. Fall cleanup. You are going to want to check your gutters and make sure that they are cleaned out. This prevents ice damage and ice buildup from occurring. It can become very dangerous if you have a lot of ice buildup and can cause a lot of damage as well. Finally, you want to stock up on your salt and ice melt. You want to be ready when that first freeze happens because you don't want anybody slipping on slippery walkways. So this is Jenny here with Access Property Management Group. Thank you very much.
