Palani Murugan Temple, Tamil Nadu: Located in palani in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, palani murugan or palani Dhandayuthapani temple is one of the six abodes of murugan. The temple is situated on the higher of the two hills of palani known as sivagiri. The main deity of the temple, subrahmanayam is said to be made of amalgam of nine poisonous subsctances and is placed upon a pedestal of stone. The most esteemed form of worship at the temple is the abhishekam which includes anointment of the idol with oils, sandalwood paste, milk, unguents and bathing of the idol with water as an act of ritual purification. Besides regular services, days sacred to the god subrahmanayam are celebrated with pomp and splendour every year and are attended by thongs of devotees from all over the south india.
