In this video, we will rank and explore Lee Grant's 10 greatest movies. Grant is a prime example of the success you can have if you never give up. After all, at one point early in her career it looked like her days of being an actress were over when she was blacklisted from the industry alongside her husband on suspicions of having communist leanings. But over time, she was able to make a comeback. And when she did it would be quite a run she had as in one year alone she’d appear in two of the defining films of the era, In The Heat Of The Night (1967) and Valley Of The Dolls (1967), each of which dealt with the difficult subjects of racism and addiction respectively. And this kicked off a major renaissance for Lee Grant then, not just on the silver screen but also on the stage as in that same decade she’d win awards for her role in a production of the French play The Maids (1947). And as if that wasn’t enough, she’d also become a star by appearing in several TV shows. For instance, she took up a recurring part in the hit soap opera Peyton Place (1965-1966) and had a one-time starring role in episodes of The Fugitive (1963-1967) and Columbo (1968-1971). But it wasn’t all about work for Grant. No, she was also dedicated to her family life. And this is evident in the fact that throughout her peak years as an actress she was also raising two children, one of whom, Dinah Manoff, would later go on to find success herself as an actress and director. Of course by that point though Grant was still going strong too, with her biggest hit of the seventies arguably being Airport ‘77 (1977) where she performed alongside Brenda Vaccaro, Jack Lemmon, and others. And if comedy wasn’t what someone was looking for back then, she was also delivering the thrills in horror flicks such as Damien: Omen II (1978) where she played the role of Ann Thorne, aunt to the antichrist Damien. All of this is to say then that throughout a career which has lasted for the better part of a century, Lee Grant has continued to prove why she deserves a spot on anyone’s list of great Hollywood icons. And with her still providing voice work as recently as her role in Killian & the Comeback Kids (2020), we don’t expect her to stop quite yet.
