Welcome to Hikebytes Watch Episode 2 “Hidden Rock Pools of Matilija Creek Ojai Ca., in our Park & Swim Series. Just off Highway 33 (Maricopa) in the Los Padres Mountains. We explore the unigque emerald green waters of the North Fork of Matilija Creek, only 0.1 miles upstream from Mosler Rock, featured in our first episode. 💦 This adventure brings together everything we love: Easy park and access To Rock pools of N. Fork Matilija Creek Deep swimming holes with crystal-clear water Boulder jumping opportunities at epic Slab Rock (Our nick name) Smaller cascades and rock pools perfect for cooling off And a unique canyon landscape where geology meets highway 🏊‍♂️ Our first stop is Slab Rock — with a 7-8-foot deep emerald pool with a giant concrete slab that acts as a natural launchpad for boulder jumping. From there, we hike upstream to explore shallow pools (3-4 feet deep), small waterfalls, and surreal rock formations formed by time, water, and the edges of HWY 33 itself. 🧭 What to Bring: Grippy shoes for bouldering down the steep slope Swimsuit and towel Waterproof bag for snacks and gear Plenty of water Trash bag (pack it in, pack it out!) Optional: GoPro or underwater camera for unreal water footage 📍 Getting there: Take the 101 and exit onto HWY 33 North (toward Maricopa/Ojai). Follow HWY 33 for approx. 17.3 miles to Mosler Rock. Continue 0.1 miles further past Mosler Rock, and park on the right-hand side in the dirt turnout. *Look for the steep path down into the canyon through an arch of dead branches, turn right at the bottom— walk 50 steps and you’ll be swimming in minutes.
