This Graham Farish N gauge Class 43 in Virgin livery came into the workshop as a poor runner, displaying inconsistent speed control and hesitation under load. Over time, dried lubrication and fine debris can build up within the gear towers and wheelsets, significantly affecting performance — particularly at lower speeds. The wheels and pickup surfaces were thoroughly cleaned to restore reliable electrical contact. Old lubricant was removed from the drivetrain and replaced with fresh, correctly applied lubrication to ensure smooth gear meshing and efficient motor operation. Following reassembly and testing, the Class 43 now runs smoothly and consistently once again, with improved slow-speed control and stable performance across the speed range.
