this is the live recording from a talk given by Tom Stapledon to a members meeting of the Friends of Williamson's Tunnels via Zoom in January 2025. This talk and slide show describes the process undertaken by the FoWT volunteer diggers as they cleared out the first chamber at the long lost Paddington tunnels section. After discovering a way back into these cellars in 1999, the volunteers had a 13 year wait while they negotiated a lease on a small patch of land on the surface which would enable them to start the clearance process in June 2012. This chamber, closest to the surface, was later nicknamed the "Mile-Long Tunnel" for reasons that are explained. It was just the first in a series of wonderful discoveries as the diggers worked their way down to sixty feet below ground.
