Tulane University Judeo-Christian Studies Chair presents the Hugh McCloskey Evans Memorial Lecture featuring Christine Hayes speaking on the topic, "What's So Divine About Divine Law?" Christine Hayes is Robert F. and Patricia R. Weis Professor of Religious Studies at Yale University, where she has taught since 1996, following three years teaching in the Princeton Near Eastern Studies Department. She received her BA from Harvard and PhD from the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Berkeley. Her award-winning books include Between the Babylonian and Palestinian Talmuds (Oxford 1997) and Gentile Impurities and Jewish Identities: Intermarriage and Conversion from the Bible to the Talmud (Oxford 2002). Prof. Hayes' Introduction to the Bible (Yale 2012) is based on her widely viewed online Bible class in the Open Yale Courses program. Her most recent book, What’s Divine About Divine Law? (Princeton 2015), examines the classical and biblical roots of the Western idea of divine law.
