8 MM Home movies from 1957 shot by my dad on a trip we took to the tunnel south of Cowan, TN on the NC&StL mainline. First scene is looking back towards Cowan (if you look closely you can see a car crossing the track at the Marquette Cement plant drive). Closeup of the plaque near the entrance. Next is a southward view of the tunnel from the main line right of way (note the stone arch bridge of the "Goat Line" which crosses the main line just before the north portal entrance. The next scene is looking northward back towards Cowan. A freight train headed up by F units comes through the tunnel followed shortly by the GP7 pushers (normally 3 units strung together). NOTE that this was prior to the construction to widen and increase the height of the tunnel to accomadate the piggyback and inter-modal freight trains that are commonplace now.
