Actors Gajraj Rao, Manav Kaul, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Pavail Gulati spoke to Filmfare's Editor-In-Chief Jitesh Pillai about their journey as actors in Bollywood, their breakthrough performances, actors they admire from the industry and their opinion about the current social media age.Β Gajraj Rao, popularly known for his roles in Badhai Ho & Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, recalls his initial working stint with filmmakers Mani Ratnam & Shekhar Kapur in films like Dil Se and Bandit Queen. He goes on to talk about how he dislikes toxic work environments and mentions how the existence of hierarchies on sets, bothers him.Β Chandan Roy Sanyal, talks about the turning point in his career which was Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey starring Shahid Kapoor. With a background in science, the actor expresses his wish to go back in time and take up Hindi literature in his college - which would have helped him stick closer to arts & theatre. He grew up watching and admiring Mithun Chakraborty as an actor, whose films were a rage back then. He further shares his experience of working with Nandita Das in Manto and how the feminine gaze added value to the film. Manav Kaul mentions how theatre and writing keeps him afloat as an artist. He talks about working as a junior artist in his initial days in the industry and expresses the relief he felt on receiving a humble amount of Rs. 700 for his job. The actor goes on to reflect on his characters from his notable films like Kai Po Che, Tumhari Sulu and his recent series Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper.Β He reveals how he is content with being single and would rather choose to be a great friend.Β Pavail Gulati, opens about his film Thappad, the best advice received from director Anubhav Sinha and how doing theatre shaped his sensibilities as an actor. He talks about his idol Shah Rukh Khan and the film Yes Boss being his favourite. Pavail mentions how it's tough to get work amidst a competitive industry but it's the hunger for getting more work that will help one achieve his goals. He feels as he isn't established as other senior actors it's more a reason for him to work harder and make the most of his time on a set.Β The actors further share insights about their relationships, equation with their families, dynamics with their co-actors and things they would have done differently if given a second chance.
