Dozens, if not hundreds, of vessels are anchored in the Gulf of Oman “waiting for some form of greenlight to pass through” the Strait of Hormuz, reports journalist Inzamam Rashid, from outside the waterway. Iran exerts de facto control over the now “perilous” strait, he told Al Jazeera. “Waters in these areas, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, remain very unsafe,” he said. “This is not just a military war that we are seeing … It’s very much an energy and economic war as well. And a lot of that is being fuelled by the activity here on the Strait of Hormuz,” he added. “That hike in oil prices that we are seeing – the highest since June 2022 – that’s happening because of this strategic waterway remaining shut.” Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on X: / ajenglish Find us on Facebook: / aljazeera Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/ Check out our Instagram page: / aljazeeraenglish Download AJE Mobile App: https://aje.news/AJEMobile #Iran #StraitOfHormuz #FuelPrices #GasPrices #OilSupply #EnergyCrisis #Economy #Oil #Gas #LNG #OilPrices #USIsraelWarOnIran #USIranTensions #MiddleEastTensions #USIranWar #IranWar #OperationEpicFury #AlJazeeraEnglish
