I'm Professor Ramon Shaban, working here at the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute. Covid 19 has shown how infectious diseases affects us all. Here at Sydney ID, we're at the forefront of infection prevention and disease control for Australia and the world. My team and I pioneered the response to high consequence infectious diseases such as Mpox and Covid 19. We identified the first cases in the state and quickly set up research-based testing and treatment plans to stop the spread and to provide safe, high quality care to those affected. I also serve as an associate director of the New South Wales Biocontainment Centre and Specialist Service for High Consequence Infectious Diseases. This is a brand-new state-of-the-art facility, designed to contain and combat deadly diseases: and it's the first of its kind here in Australia. We work with colleagues and partners nationally and globally to tackle threats such as Ebola. At Sydney ID, we literally rewrite best practice. I'm proud to be the editor-in-chief of Australia's first comprehensive textbook on infection prevention and disease control. It's the go-to resource for all health care workers and students: wherever they work. We're all at risk of infectious diseases often when we least expect it, and there are many simple things we can do to protect ourselves and each other. My work provides the community with the right information, at the right time, in the right way, to safeguard us all.
