The day started cold at 34F, nearly freezing, but I'm finally in the water on Lake Kipawa, Quebec, heading for my first destination on Leg 1, Day 1. The launch was delayed due to a houseboat being pulled out, so I waited for that to be done. After the houseboat was out I drove down to the ramp but two fishing boats were then pulling out, so I again waited for them to clear. After that the launch was routine. However, when I went to pump up the dinghy I discovered the pump battery was dead! So I improvised by using the hand pump for part of the inflation while the pump was put on a battery brick to charge. I hoped it would recharge enough I could use the pump. This turned out to be the case and I was able to use the electric pump to finish pumping the tubes to a satisfactory level and did not have to finish with the hand pump, which is very, very tedious. I was soon underway and all went well until I got to my planned destination and the anchor would not hold in the muddy bottom. I had to bail out of that plan.
