This is the first of two episodes that show the restoration of the original exhaust system that the car left the factory with. The factory exhaust on E-Types did not last long, and it is very rare to have these original pieces still intact. You'll find that "the books" really don't even show the original exhaust components - and the few photos in the most recent "Porter" originality book are of THIS car! In this episode, we will take a detailed look at the original exhaust still in place on the car - including the manifolds, downpipes, mufflers, and intermediate pipes. We'll also look at the original factory hardware, flanges, and exhaust clamps. I could have removed the original exhaust, set it aside, and replaced it with new pieces in well under one day of work... I even had enough new exhaust components in my parts collection at the shop to do the job two or three times over! Instead, I spent over a year deciding what to do, then restoring as much of the original components as I possibly could - while searching for the most accurate pieces to replace what I could not save.
