The concepts of imitation and nature were central ideas in Neoclassical literary theory. Imitation means that writers should follow and learn from the works of great classical authors like Homer and Virgil. However, imitation did not mean copying blindly; writers could adapt and improve classical models. The idea of nature referred to the universal truths about human behavior and the natural order of the world. Neoclassical writers believed that literature should represent human actions realistically and follow the moral and logical order found in nature. Thus, by imitating classical models and reflecting universal human nature, writers could create balanced, rational, and meaningful literature. The neoclassical writers generally saw the ancients such as Homer and Vergil as having already discovered and expressed the fundamental laws of nature. #kerala #baenglishliterature #calicutuniversity
