The 1VULCANASymposium on Submarine Volcanology of the Canary Islands was held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, November 21st, 2022. It was organized by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC) in collaboration with GeoTenerife for MarineSciCamp. The symposium focused on the role played by different institutions during the two more recent volcanic crises in the Canary Islands (El Hierro and La Palma islands) and the more relevant scientific results obtained during the monitoring carried out over these years. Speakers included: Dr. Itahiza Domínguez (IGN, Spanish National Geographic Institute) Dra. Nieves Sánchez (IGME-CSIC, ) Dr. Antonio Álvarez Valero (University of Salamanca) Dr. Eugenio Fraile Nuez (IEO-CSIC, Spanish Institute of Oceanography) Dr. Ramón Casillas (University of La laguna) Dra. Ana Raquel Díaz (IPNA-CSIC, ) Dr. Jesús M. Arrieta (IEO-CSIC, Spanish Institute of Oceanography) Dña. Alba González Vega (PhD. Student at IEO-CSIC) Dña. Clàudia Pérez Barranco (PhD. Student at IEO-CSIC) D. Juan Pablo Martín Díaz (PhD. Student at IEO-CSIC) Plus there was a q+a panel discussion with the key speakers moderated by Sharon Backhouse of GeoTenerife. The symposium was held in the Oceanographic Center of the Canary Islands and delegates from around the world were able to participate virtually.
