The KwaZulu-Natal government is appealing for calm amid growing threats to shut down parts of the province through violet protests. Thirteen people have been arrested in eMpangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal following protests that have caused chaos across the province. There have been reports of gunshots, tyres being burnt and stone-throwing on the N3 near the Mooi River toll plaza in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. It follows the burning of at least five trucks late last night. The operations manager at the N3 Toll Concession confirmed reports that three trucks were set alight on the northbound section and two more trucks were on fire south of Mooi Plaza. Law enforcement is making every effort to bring the situation under control and restore calm in the area. Police have continued to monitor hotspots across the province as former president Jacob Zuma's Constitutional Court hearing for the rescission of his 15-month sentence approaches on Monday. For the latest update on the protests in KwaZulu-Natal, we cross live to our reporter on the N3 who is at the Mooi River Toll Plaza.
