Japan walking tour in Tokyo Ryogoku 2024 4K 60fps HDR

This time, I walked from Ryogoku to Kinshicho in eastern Tokyo—two neighboring districts separated by the Sumida River, each with distinct character. Ryogoku centers on sumo wrestling. Kinshicho serves as a commercial hub with clear views of Tokyo Skytree. RYOGOKU: SUMO WRESTLING DISTRICT This Ryogoku walking tour begins at Ryogoku Station, the gateway to Tokyo's sumo district. Ryogoku Kokugikan (the National Sumo Hall) dominates the area—a massive arena where professional sumo tournaments happen three times yearly. Even when tournaments aren't running, the building defines the neighborhood's identity. Yokozuna Yokocho is an alley lined with sumo-themed restaurants and chanko nabe (sumo stew) establishments. Bronze statues of legendary yokozuna (grand champions) stand near Kokugikan. The streets around Ryogoku Station carry sumo imagery—storefronts, signage, the general atmosphere reflects the sport's presence. Ryogoku Edo Noren is a food hall inside Ryogoku Station featuring traditional Tokyo cuisine. Yasuda Garden, a traditional Japanese garden from the Meiji era, sits near Kokugikan—a green space maintained with careful landscaping. The Japanese Sword Museum and Sumida Hokusai Museum are nearby, both small cultural institutions in a district better known for sumo than art. Nominosukune Shrine is dedicated to the legendary founder of sumo wrestling. The shrine is small, tucked into the neighborhood, visited mainly by locals and sumo practitioners rather than tourists. KINSHICHO: COMMERCIAL DISTRICT & SKYTREE VIEWS The walk crosses into Kinshicho, a busier commercial district centered on Kinshicho Station. The station serves as a major transit hub with shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment establishments clustered around it. The bar district near the station operates densely—narrow streets packed with small drinking establishments. Kinshicho's main attraction is its proximity to Tokyo Skytree. Multiple vantage points throughout the district provide clear views of the tower, particularly from Oyokogawa Park and areas along the Sumida River. The tower dominates the skyline, visible from most streets. Olinas Kinshicho is a shopping complex near the station. Kinshi Park hosts the annual Sakura Festival during cherry blossom season—this walk captured the festival in progress, with crowds viewing blossoms along the park's paths. The Sumida River Festival was also happening during filming, adding temporary event infrastructure to the riverside areas. The shopping streets around Kinshicho Station (Kinshicho Main Street) provide standard commercial services: chain stores, restaurants, pharmacies. Kotobashi 3-chome and 4-chome are residential transition zones between the station's density and quieter neighborhoods. RYOGOKU TO KINSHICHO: EASTERN TOKYO'S CONTRAST This Tokyo walking tour shows how neighboring districts serve different functions. Ryogoku preserves its sumo identity—slower, more traditional, defined by a single cultural institution. Kinshicho operates as commercial infrastructure—faster, denser, serving commuters and shoppers. The Sumida River runs between them, with bridges connecting both characters. Walking from Ryogoku to Kinshicho takes about an hour, covering the transition from specialized cultural district to general commercial hub, both existing within eastern Tokyo's geography. 🕒 TIMESTAMPS 00:00 — Highlights 00:53 — Ryogoku 02:13 — Yokozuna Yokocho 11:11 — Yokozuna statue 14:13 — Ryogoku Station 15:00 — Ryogoku Edo Noren 20:04 — Ryogoku Kokugikan 22:13 — Yasuda Garden 31:12 — Japanese Sword Museum 39:29 — Ryogoku Station 48:32 — Sumida Hokusai Museum 51:44 — Nominosukune Shrine 1:08:44 — Oyokogawa Park 1:17:00 — Kinshicho bar district 1:19:45 — Kinshicho Station 1:31:01 — Shirakaba 1:53:48 — Kinshicho Main Street 1:59:25 — Skytree viewpoint 2:08:08 — Olinas Kinshicho 2:10:10 — Sumida River Festival 2:16:32 — Kinshi Park Sakura Festival 🔔 Subscribe for walking tours across Tokyo 👍 Like if Ryogoku's sumo character or Kinshicho's Skytree views stood out #japan #walkingtour #tokyowalking #citywalk #japantravel #ryogoku
