Hello friends, welcome to Uttarakhand Diary – Episode 01 on my channel Wildlife.Krishna. I am Krishna Gopal Das from Agra, and in this new series, I will be covering different birding destinations of Uttarakhand. This is my first Uttarakhand visit of 2026 and for this trip, I explored Sattal and Ranikhet over two days. Location- Highway Kitchen (https://maps.app.goo.gl/6Z7iyCjjC4om7...) Day 1 – Sattal Birding We started our birding right from the hotel hide and recorded many beautiful Himalayan birds including: Common Green Magpie, Red-billed Blue Magpie, Laughing thrushes, Woodpeckers, Kalij Pheasant and Parakeets. Our main targets were Brown Wood Owl and Tawny Fish Owl. After a lot of struggle, we finally managed to spot a beautiful Tawny Fish Owl near Chafi village. We also enjoyed sightings of Brown Dipper, Crested Kingfisher, Steppe Eagle, and more. Day 2 – Ranikhet Birding Early morning, we left for Ranikhet and enjoyed a magical mountain sunrise. Our targets were Koklass Pheasant, Cheer Pheasant, and Chukar. Finally, we were lucky to spot a male Koklass Pheasant, along with a flock of Slaty-headed Parakeets. This trip taught us many things about Himalayan birding, patience and the importance of local guides.
