Music Lesson 6 - Neematale - Purvikalyani - Music Lesson by Geetha Raja | Kalakendra "Neematale" - Javalis are composed in Shringara rasa and sung in a quicker tempo, compared to padams which are sung in a slow paced, deliberate tempo. It is a song form of a recent origin and is appreciated on account of its clarity and the simplicity of sahitya. The madhyamakala gives it a joyous and lilting effect. Smt Veena Dhanammal's family had a large repertoire of javalis in various ragas like Kapi, Behag, Paras, Khamas, Kanada and so on. Smts Brinda-Muktha, grand daughters of Smt Veena Dhanammal, popularised the rendition of padams and javalis in their concerts. In this javali "Neematalemayanura" in Purvikalyani raga, composed by Sri Tiruppanandal Pattabhiramayya, the Nayika asks, " O my Lord! What has become of all your promises? You said you would get me a diamond nose ring and gold bangles-- I succumbed to all your promises!"
