The Henry Jones Playing Fields are a number of sports pitches perched way up at the top or the Church road Castlereagh. They are named after a former prominent Unionist Councillor in Castlereagh, a Mr Henry Jones. Today the playing fields are used by a number of different clubs for training etc but they have recently become home to the East Belfast GAA Club. The team currently plays in the Down Senior County League. East Belfast GAA is a cross-community team of both Unionists and Nationalists, and the club actively promotes friendship and cooperation between both sides of the political divide. It is the first GAA club in East Belfast since St Colmcille’s, which was formed in the 1950s and folded in the beginnings of the Troubles. The club's first president is Irish-language promoter Linda Ervine. I wish them well.
