Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990) “Glitter and Be Gay” from Candide (1956) Julie Allison, soprano Prof. Damien Krzyzek, piano One of Bernstein’s most dazzling arias, “Glitter and Be Gay” is sung by Cunegonde in Act II of Candide. Brimming with satire, vocal fireworks, and over-the-top ornamentation, the aria parodies 18th-century coloratura brilliance while showcasing Bernstein’s signature wit and theatrical flair. Its blend of comic irony and virtuosic demand makes it one of the most celebrated soprano showpieces of the 20th century. This performance was presented as part of the 2025 season of Orvieto Musica in Orvieto, Italy. Recording produced by Orvieto Musica Festival Media Curator, Andrew Clarkson, and recorded in the Sala Expo of the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo.
