Unbeaten 25 year old Andre "The Beast" Berto took on 27 year old former WBA Welterweight Champion Luis Collazo aka "God's Way" in the 2nd defense of his WBC Welterweight Championship. Prefight records; Berto 23(19)-0, Collazo 29(14)-3-0. In Jun 2008, Berto lifted the WBC Welterweight Title via TKO7 over Miguel Angel Rodriguez and made his 1st successful defense of the title via UD12 over Steve Forbes in September of the same year. For his next defense, he was up against the top rated southpaw from Brooklyn, New York. Overall, it was an explosive encounter with amazing ebb and flow over 12 rounds of action. In round 4, Andre was deducted a point by referee James Jen Kin for excessive holding (not shown). In round 6, Berto was cut above his right eye due to an accidental headbutt. In round 8, a sharp jab caused a gash to open up above Collazo’s left eye. Entering the championship rounds, both were severely exhausted but gave their all (as they did throughout the fight) till the final bell to the thunderous applause of the exhilarated crowd. After 36 minutes of tremendous action, The Beast roared with a UD12 victory to retain his title and undefeated streak with scores of 116-111 & 114-113 (2x). His record improved to 24(19)-0. According to CompuBox Punch Stats, Luis Collazo threw 812 punches and landed 222 while Andre Berto threw 682 and connected with 266. A remarkably high work rate by 2 ring warriors! Enjoy this highlight of one of the most exciting fights of the 2000s and remember to SUBSCRIBE.
