From my Namco Museum Virtual Arcade longplay video's ( • Namco Museum Virtual Arcade - Longplay ) description: "My performance in all of these games was all over the place, and while I wish some games had gone way better (I didn't even 1CC Pac-Man Arrangement, for crying out loud), the amount of time that this took is enough on its own for me to be pleased with just having this done at all." With the benefit of hindsight, I probably wouldn't have included that blurb about Pac-Man Arrangement. Turns out it's much harder on this compilation. This is one of three of the Arrangement titles from Namco Museum Battle Collection that got thrown onto Namco Museum Virtual Arcade when it was released in 2008. The weird thing, though, is while the other two Arrangement titles barely received any changes (Galaga Arrangement having some sound effects swapped and a couple other minor things, Dig Dug Arrangement being straight up ported), this one got altered quite a bit. I'm not sure why that's the case; maybe the developers wanted to try and fix some issues they saw with the PSP version, but all they did was make the game worse. For one, gameplay is much, MUCH faster, even moreso than the PSP version on Hard. Power Pellets also don't last for as long, especially on the boss stages. My guess is that they thought the PSP version was too easy (which it is) and wanted to make the game harder for rerelease, but they went a little too far. The Xbox 360 controller doesn't do this game many favors either; at multiple instances in the run I make accidental turns or go the wrong way when I don't intend to, causing me to get caught, all because of the touchy joystick. I still stand by my opinion that it's not awful, but it's not great, either. On top of that, there's no Free Play mode unlike the other two Arrangement titles (not like I could've used it anyways, and what's funny is that you do get a Continue feature AFTER completing the game), and if you Game Over, you're dumped back to the Settings menu with no continue option. That's not to say they didn't try to improve some things (if you even want to call them "improvements"). In an effort to compensate for the more aggressive gameplay, you now get power-ups almost every other stage (usually it's the wand power-up, but sometimes it's the present box). It's a nice gesture, but half the time the wand isn't even useful and you're better off just not grabbing it at all. Even worse, the jump and dash power-ups are completely removed from the game, making the Inky boss fight much harder and the final boss more tedious. There are a few other cosmetic changes as well. Some sound effects are swapped out and volume balance is altered a bit. The doors from world 2 and the bridges in 5-1 and 5-2 now operate on global cycles instead of switching off randomly, affecting the entire stage at once instead of chunks here and there. This makes 5-1 and 5-2 way harder than before, as it's easier to blindly zig-zag into a section of the level that gets blocked off with a ghost behind you and no chance to escape. While not necessarily a different game, the fact that it's so much harder to 1CC than the PSP version and the many differences it does have constituted the desire for me to make a full video on this one, too. It's definitely way more frustrating on the Xbox 360 than it needs to be, and this is only the 2nd time I've pulled this off after a few dozen attempts ever since I got this collection. I've also never seen any other 1CCs of this game on Xbox 360, so maybe that's a sign. It seems like most of the changes were reverted when the game was put on Pac-Man Museum, and I'm hopeful they'll do the same for Pac-Man Museum+.
