A brief showcase of Mastersmith, one of the classes chosen by the winners of the Beta Bounties! Mastersmith is the primary advancement option for Blacksmiths, and as such feels very much like "Blacksmith 2.0." This video showcases the Skill Build version of the Mastersmith, which like the Blacksmith before it, revolves around quickly building Extort Stacks and using them to blast enemies into space. Overwhelm has a very short cooldown and deals additional damage to stunned enemies, while Cleave rips through the target's defensive statuses, ensuring the rest of the skill chain connects for full damage. The tree culminates in Power Swing, a skill that consumes the user's Extort Stacks to do incredible damage, and gains impressive bonuses based on how many were consumed. The other side of the Mastersmith tree focuses around enhancing the user's autoattacks. While Blacksmith level skills provide long lasting buffs that provide large boosts to core stats, the Mastersmith level skills are much more specialized. With shorter durations and longer cooldowns, they aren't as permanently reliable as their predecessors, but instead add massive and unique bonuses for their short duration: Whirling Axe causes all non-skill attacks to have a chance to splash in an area around the user, a splash attack that will strike the original target of the attack a second time for free. It will also apply the effect of Shattering Axe to all targets struck, a buff that causes the Mastersmith's attacks to inflict the Vulnerable and Severe Burning statuses, softening enemies up and dealing damage to them based on the user's Vit over time. These two skills are automatically triggered with extended durations when the user activates Berserk, the final skill in this side of the tree. In exchange for blocking all skill and item use for its duration, Berserk gives the user a huge host of buffs that make the toughest of enemies look like they are made of paper. Just make sure you have an escape plan for when its ten second duration runs out! The last branch of the Mastersmith tree serves both of the above builds equally well - these are the Equipment Modification skills. By acquiring these skills, the Mastersmith is able to craft permanent modifications that can be applied to (almost) any weapon or armor. These modifications replace the existing Random Options on equipment with a new set of hyper focused options, based on what modification was applied. While Mastersmiths gain the greatest benefit from these mods, any character is capable of using them, so business-minded Mastersmiths might find a good opportunity to make a quick buck by sharing the fruits of their labour. With virtually no defensive options in their skill tree, the Mastersmith relies entirely on its incredible damage output to survive. That said, going full glass cannon is probably not recommended - it only takes one archer waltzing in from off screen to make an easy encounter into a dicey one, and the only thing standing between the Mastersmith and the respawn button is your gear. In this video, the gear I've chosen to use is "good," but not "great." Luckily, the Mastersmith kit is perfect at filling the holes left by your gear, providing that little bit of Crit, Defense Pierce, Attack Speed, Hit Rate...whatever it is you need to patch the holes until you've perfected your load out. I am quite a bit overleveled for this region (125, while enemies are in the 110~115 range), so it may seem this map is very much "too easy" for me as I am now. But the keen eyed will notice how quickly that HP bar jumps and drops - even as strong as my damage may appear, there's a good deal more growth in the gear department that needs to happen before this guy is anywhere near complete!
