Hi, everyone, Jesse here with etrailer. Today, we'll be taking a look at, and I'll show you how to install the Roadmaster Universal Diode Kit on our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. There's five main components to look into. One's setting up your vehicle to be flat towed, starting with the base plate. That's gonna be the structural mounting point for the towed vehicle in which everything else connects to. Then we have the tow bar. That's gonna be the physical link between towed vehicle and motor home. We have our diode wiring. This is gonna send a signal from the taillights on the motor home to the taillights of the towed vehicle to get those to function properly. And we have our braking system. This is here just to help you come to a safe stop. And what it does is allows you to not only rely on the brakes of the motor home, but also use the towed vehicle's brakes to help you come to that safe stop. Then we have these safety cables. These are here in case of a catastrophic disconnect. They're going to hold everything together and allow you to get to a safe stop. The diodes themselves are actually hidden behind our taillight here, which is really nice compared to some of those magnetic versions that you might see. Another nice thing is you don't have to set them up every time. You just, once they're installed, you're ready to go, but you'll get a closer look at the actual diodes during the installation process. This kit really comes with everything you need right out of the box. It comes with this flexible, coiled umbilical cord, and the six pole plug that you need to plug that cord into. The plug itself is really standard. It's got your locking tab here, and it's just as easy as every other six pole to get plugged in and out. If you have any questions or concerns about this diode kit or anything else we offer here at etrailer, feel free to reach out to us. We'd be happy to get you pointed in the right direction When it comes to the installation with this, you do have to run wires from the front of the vehicle to the back, and then splice into your factory taillight wiring, and you're most likely installing other flat tow components at the same time. So I'd understand if you're not looking to do this yourself. Check out our dealer locator. You can find someone local to you that would be happy to get you set up. If you are looking to see how this gets installed, then follow along, and I'll walk you through the process. To begin our installation, you'll want to kind of map out where you're gonna be mounting your six pole. Our Roadmaster base plate comes with a mounting bracket, so we're gonna end up right there. I just taped it off with a little bit of slack for now. From there, we want to feed our wiring up into our engine bay, so I just kind of tucked it down from the engine bay and tied it off. And once we get right here, we're going to end up grounding our white wire on this post right here. So what I'll do is snip that white wire. Kinda separate that from the rest of our wires. And we'll crimp on our ring terminal to ground that down. The rest of our white wire we'll be using. So just peel that off, and we'll eventually use it to connect our two taillights. But our ground post here is a 13 millimeter. (tool whirring) Get that taken off. Take our white wire. Strip the end of that. And we'll take a large ring terminal, crimp that on. And we'll just slide that over our post and reinstall the nut. (tool whirring) As far as routing our wires out of the engine bay, it is pretty tricky. There's a rubber grommet down in here where there's a wire harness going through it. I just poked a hole through that grommet and then fed my wires down. And then now we'll get our vehicle lifted up, and I'll show you the rest of our routing. So now at this point, you want to remove a handful of fasteners that are holding this wheel well liner in, so you can kind of pry on it and peel it back. That's gonna help you guide your wire through that grommet up there, and towards the middle of the vehicle here. And once we get down here, our main goal is to stay away from any hot or moving parts. So if you can find wiring harnesses or covers like this, just follow those. And we're just going up above this skid plate. There's a wiri
