There are three main types of paint finishes: matte, satin and gloss. This video walks you through the pros and cons of these three types of paint finishes. 1. Matte & Flat Finishes Matte and flat paint finishes deliver a smooth, subtle look and show little-to-no sheen. PROS: Matte and flat finishes cover imperfections, making them perfect for ceilings and walls in the bedroom, dining rooms, and living rooms. CONS: Matte and flat finishes can prove difficult to clean without removing the finish. Do not use this type of finish in your bathroom, kitchen, or a kid’s room. 2. Satin Finishes Satin finishes are smooth and silky. This finish retains its pearl-like sheen even when it’s dry. PROS: A satin finish reflects more light than matte finishes, and it stands up well to washing. Use a satin finish in high-traffic areas of your home such as bathrooms, the kitchen, and a kid’s room.
