Students from several Colleges across the national capital held a massive protest outside the University Grants Commission (UGC) headquarters over the new rules, claiming that it could lead to chaos on campuses. Later, the students paused the protest as UGC officials spoke to delegation. It is worth mentioning here that new UGC rules have been brought in to stop caste-based discrimination in colleges & universities. For this, the UGC has asked institutions to set up special committees, helplines and monitoring teams to handle complaints, especially from SC, ST and OBC students.
