In this episode, we meet Steve Tibble, one of the leading historians of the Knights Templar, a former finance professional, and the author of several books that cut through centuries of myth with clarity and humour. Most people know the Templars as elite warrior-monks serving both King and Pope. But behind the armour, they were also diplomats, administrators, and the builders of a remarkably advanced financial infrastructure for their time. Long before modern banking, the Templars made it possible to move money safely across borders. You could deposit funds in England and withdraw them in the Holy Land. Their network helped finance logistics, infrastructure, and long term development across Europe and the Middle East. They did all this without central banks, modern courts or a reliable rule of law. Instead, their system relied on trust, reputation and political legitimacy. That huge concentration of financial power made them essential to rulers. It also made them threatening. In this conversation, we explore how the Knights Templar created a proto banking system, why it worked, and how the very success of their financial model contributed to their downfall. #finance #privateequity #templars 👇 Watch, like, and subscribe if you enjoy the conversation! 💬 Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments! 👉 Subscribe for more inspiring interviews. 📩 We welcome your feedback in the comments! ------- A co-production by FairyMotion & Pulsar Media www.fairymotion.com www.pulsar-media.ch 🔔 Subscribe and turn on notifications so you don’t miss upcoming conversations! ------- Disclaimer The views expressed in this video are those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Basis Point or its partners.
