BBY08072021.010.189 Lately, we have been doing most of our posts documenting Bruno’s progress with his recovery from a shoulder injury. My hope is those of Bruno’s Backyard extended pack that have senior dogs to know there are options available to them and we get to continue to share our lives with the dogs in our family we love. Injuries tend to be somewhat easier to deal with since we humans know muscle injuries take time to heal. It’s the surprises that can throw our world upside down. Three days ago, our girl Cinnamon had thrown up and had diarrhea, became very lethargic, had a temp of 98.6 F at home (100 at the vet), and cold gums and ears. After an examination and a good number of medical tests, it was determined that she had a mass on her spleen which ruptured, causing internal bleeding and the lethargy. She was also anemic and her white count was elevated. Cinnamon underwent surgery and had her spleen removed yesterday (Friday). As with most tumors, this had been going on for a while as they found the mass was the size of a baseball and had fiberous tissues attached to parts of the mass, indicating small ruptures over time that we were not aware of. The mass was localized to only the spleen. Lab results of the mass will be available in 7-10 days to determine if it is benign or malignant. Our girl came back home this morning and doesn’t seem phased by the fact she JUST had surgery. We are hopeful her recovery will be quick.
