Arriving in Montrose, Colorado, from Dallas, I get a shuttle van from the airport to my Holiday Inn Express in time to settle in a bit before our 5:00 pm meet and greet meeting, before having dinner at the Horsefly Brewing Company, which was less than 2 miles away. After a hearty breakfast, we loaded our van with luggage and embarked on a journey through the Owl Creek Pass, also known as Cinematic Colorado. This picturesque route seamlessly blends alpine drama with pastoral calm, evoking a true grit or John Wayne vibe. Our drive through the Cimarron area was punctuated by scenic stops to capture the beauty of fence lines, aspens, and mountain peaks. As we ascended towards the pass, the dirt road led us through dense aspen groves and ponderosa pines. Then, in a dramatic moment, the forest parted to unveil the majestic Chimney Rock and Courthouse Mountain, a fortress-like peak that seemed to stand guard over the landscape. As we drove into Ouray County, the day was mostly cloudy, and a light drizzle began to fall. This sudden change in weather, a hallmark of mountainous regions, was a reminder of nature's unpredictability. Yet, just as quickly as it had started, the sun broke through the clouds as my room at the Ouray Inn, located on the second floor, was ready for me. The sunset shoot was a breathtaking experience, located down the million-dollar highway, just outside of town, on Crystal Lake. The lake's surface mirrored the majestic Red Mountain #1, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we made our way back to town, where we enjoyed a delightful dinner at Cassidy's. The night ended with a thrilling encounter-some of us spotted a black bear across the street from our hotel, a reminder that we were sharing their home in the wilderness.
