Located in the lush Amazon rainforest, Casa Campinarana, designed by the renowned firm Laurent Troost Architectures, stands out for its careful integration with the surrounding natural environment. With a central focus on minimizing deforestation and preserving the forest as much as possible, the residence was structured into two distinct large volumes, one longitudinal and the other transverse. The intelligent design of the house prioritizes thermal comfort and passive sustainability, perfectly aligning with the extreme climatic conditions of the Amazon region. By reversing the conventional housing typology, the living spaces were strategically allocated on the ground floor, while the outdoor living areas and elevated pool are situated on the upper level. The Corten steel roof was chosen for its low maintenance requirements and its ability to seamlessly integrate with the Campina forest and the rich reddish clay soil so prevalent in the Amazon landscape. Additionally, the eight V-shaped supports sustain the generous roof overhangs, creating additional space around the house that allows for air circulation and shields the interiors from intense sunlight. The fully glazed expansive living room fosters an uninterrupted connection with the covered terrace, the sun deck, the pool, and the surrounding nature. The design also incorporates passive design strategies, such as sliding windows on both sides and additional glass elements, ensuring cross ventilation in all spaces. With exposed concrete details and a predominant palette of light tones, Casa Campinarana exudes a contemporary and minimalist aesthetic. When visiting this house immersed in the rich biodiversity of the Amazon, it is impossible not to be impressed by the delicate harmony achieved between modern architecture and the lush natural environment. Casa Campinarana, with its ecological sensitivity and careful architectural approach, is truly a remarkable example of how design can adapt and thrive in balance with the most challenging environments on Earth.
