Ilbesheim near Landau in der Pfalz is a local community in the Südliche Weinstraße district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Landau-Land. Ilbesheim is located southwest of Landau in der Pfalz on the Haardtrand, alternatively called the Weinstrasse region, and its subunit Oberhaardt. The upper unit in question is the Northern Upper Rhine Lowland. Neighboring communities are - in a clockwise direction - Landau in der Pfalz, Göcklingen, Eschbach and Leinsweiler. In Wasgau, as the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the adjoining northern part of the Vosges are also called, the community has an uninhabited forest exclave, the Ilbesheim Forest. This borders - including other exclaves - on Leinsweiler, Wollmesheimer Wald (part of Landau in der Pfalz), Waldhambach, Waldrohrbach and Annweiler am Trifels. Northeast of the settlement area on the boundary with Landau rises the Kleine Kalmit, an elevation in front of the Haardt. The Birnbach flows through the town in a west-east direction. The 512.7 meter high Wetterberg rises on the forest exclave; The Wolfsbach rises there. On November 7, 1704, at the headquarters of the imperial troops in Ilbesheim near Landau in the Palatinate, the Ilbesheim Treaty was signed as a surrender agreement by the representative of the Electress Therese Kunigunde, the court chamber director and secret secretary Johann Sebald Neusönner, and the representatives of Emperor Leopold I. He brought an end to the hostilities during the War of the Spanish Succession in southern Germany. From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire, Ilbesheim was initially incorporated into the canton of Billigheim and, from 1802, into the canton of Bergzabern. In 1815 the place was added to Austria. Just one year later the location changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria. A year later he moved to the canton of Landau. From 1818 to 1862 Ilbesheim belonged to the Landau Landcommissariat; The Landau district office then emerged from this. From 1939 the place was part of the Landau district in the Palatinate. After the Second World War, Ilbesheim became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone. As part of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate, Ilbesheim moved to the newly created Landau-Bad Bergzabern district on June 7, 1969, which was renamed the Südliche Weinstraße district in 1978. In 1972 the community was assigned to the newly formed Verbandsgemeinde of Landau-Land.
