My bicycle tour down the “People’s Coast” of Oregon continues. In this episode, I ride from Waldport, Oregon, to Brookings, Oregon, just north of the California border. I’m following the Adventure Cycling Association’s Pacific Coast Route, an iconic ride that is a favorite among touring bicyclists. I have ridden the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route once before, in 1989. Times have changed over the past 35 years and I have taken to retracing some of my favorite rides in retirement. It is still as enjoyable as a senior citizen, and I get to take advantage of the occasional “senior discount.” In the weeks to come, I will post two more episodes, covering the redwood forests of northern California (Part 4) and the magnificent stretch of Highway One through Mendocino and Sonoma counties to my trip’s conclusion just north of the Golden Gate Bridge (Part 5). In the spring of 2026 I will add a video featuring my bike travel gear, what I carry in my bags, my trip budget, and tips on how to get the most enjoyment out of your own long distance bicycle tours.
