Spires of Death is my favorite quest. While on the surface it's a straightforward "destroy all enemy buildings" quest, these enemy buildings are so dangerous that you need a massive kingdom to win. As you destroy the towers, the remaining towers put out stronger enemies. The levels are: 5 towers remaining: goblins 4 towers remaining: spiders & skeletons 3 towers remaining: werewolves & vampires 2 towers remaining: superbuffed goblins 1 tower remaining: ice dragons & yetis However there are a few more modifiers based on how strong your own army is: total hero levels 40+: towers remaining -1, minimum of 3 total hero levels 70+: towers remaining -1 So when you hit 40 levels, you start getting spiders and skeletons, and when you hit 70 you get werewolves and vampires, even with all 5 towers up. This means you have to pace unit recruitment in the beginning: I delay expanding beyond Krolm + Warriors for as long as possible. Next is the position of the towers. I track the position of the towers with explore flags. This lets me build the strongest buildings in their way (Krolm, Warriors, Fairgrounds). In this particular map, there were no towers to the southwest, so that's the direction I built the weakest buildings (Marketplace, Wizards Guild, Magic Bazaar). Once I have a big economy set up, the game becomes a mad rush to build out as many guilds as possible. It becomes a huge management challenge to build everything, keep your heroes alive, and keep those same heroes from destroying towers. Finally, assault the towers with attack flags, defend with Lightning Storm, and using Gate to get units closer. Unfortunately one of the towers respawns at the last minute! This happens after 4-6 minutes, and unfortunately takes me a few more minutes to regroup and destroy it. My personal best is 31 days, but this gets close enough with 34 days. Improvements for this run: 1. micromanage the attack better: use Gate more, place attack flags in a circular pattern, place more than one attack flag at once, close / destroy extraneous buildings after attack begins 2. build better: during big build rush, place a lot of buildings close to each other 3. build order: build Wizard Towers & Sorcerer's Abode earlier
