In Chapter 2 (Part 11), we take the original cavity and the refined cavityFine case and do proper inspection + comparison in ParaView, then we start real post-processing with postProcess and extract quantitative data using Plot Over Line. What you’ll learn in this video 1) Load cases using .foam files (direct ParaView loading) We create .foam files with touch so each case can be opened directly in ParaView: cavity/cavity.foam cavityFine/cavityFine.foam 2) Common paraFoam error (running from the wrong folder) If you run paraFoam from the Run directory, ParaView can’t find the required case structure (especially constant/). Solution: open each case from inside its own folder / load the .foam file correctly. 3) Compare meshes (coarse vs refined) We set Surface With Edges and toggle visibility (eye icon) to clearly see refinement. 4) Layouts in ParaView (side-by-side views) We create multiple render views: Layout 1: cavityFine Layout 2: cavity This makes it easy to compare mesh and results in parallel (pressure, velocity, slices, glyphs, streamlines, etc.). 5) Post-processing with postProcess (function objects) We list available function objects, then compute new fields for every time step: velocity components: Ux, Uy, Uz velocity magnitude: |U| (mag(U)) 6) Visualize new fields in ParaView After postProcess, ParaView shows extra fields beyond U and p, so you can directly color by Ux or |U|. 7) Plot data along a line (Data Analysis → Plot Over Line) We sample fields along a line (Resolution ~100), clean the plot, and compare curves (for example Ux vs |U|) with better formatting and labeled axes. Summary By the end of this part, you can: load and compare two cases cleanly in ParaView understand why refinement changes results generate derived fields (Ux, Uy, Uz, |U|) using postProcess extract quantitative plots using Plot Over Line Keywords (copy/paste) OpenFOAM, cavity, cavityFine, ParaView, paraFoam, foam file, touch cavity.foam, mesh comparison, surface with edges, ParaView layouts, postProcess, postProcess -func, components(U), mag(U), Ux Uy Uz, velocity magnitude, plot over line, data analysis ParaView, CFD post processing Hashtags #OpenFOAM #ParaView #ParaFoam #CFD #PostProcessing #MeshRefinement #postProcess #PlotOverLine #EngineeringSimulation
