Norman Daniels (2001) argues that healthcare is a universal right for all. He begins by raising three related questions. First, whether healthcare is morally unique and important that it should be ensured for all citizens. Second, whether there is a good way to recognize whether disparities in populations (say, wealth, education, etc.) amount to injustice or not. Third, whether there are criteria for making sure healthcare can be distributed justly. In this first video, we discuss his claim that healthcare is morally unique. Daniels argues that healthy, normal functioning is a necessary prerequisite for being included in social life, which includes the political process, economic transactions, etc. If it is necessary for inclusion, then a society has an interest in ensuring its citizens have those basic needs met. http://www.jonathanvajda.com Email: philosophyvajda@gmail.com for questions, topic recommendations, interviews, direct instruction arrangements, etc. Twitter: @jonathanvajda If you want to say thanks with a tip or gift (say, buy me coffee?), see my support landing page: https://jonathanvajda.com/support/
