And in the mat-infested streets, around teatime, the Doctor and Nyssa unearth a black market in secondhand body parts and run the gauntlet of augmented police and their augmented horses. And just between the tramstop and the picturehouse, their worst suspicions are confirmed: the Cybermen have only just begun, and the Doctor will be, just as he always has been, their saviour.... Written by Marc Platt and directed by Gary Russell. Members Reviews: Truly Classic Dr. Who! Felt like I could really travel in time, for it was the early 1980's and Peter was my doctor again. Such a joy, I highly recommend. Great Story Would you listen to Doctor Who - Spare Parts again? Why? YES. this is one frightening story and gives great background to the cybermen and their development. The older cyberman have always been a bit more frightening and this story shows just why. Worth a listen, but not at this price. Where does Doctor Who - Spare Parts rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far? I would say it's one of my favourites. It was one of the first Big Finish audios I listened too, so I might be a little biased, but I loved it then, and I still love it now. What did you like best about this story? I like how it takes what we know about the Cybermen and adds a lot more to them in regards to where they came from. It's kind of like Genesis Of The Daleks, but with the Cybermen, and with more involvement with the people affected. Have you listened to any of Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton s other performances? How does this one compare? It's nice to go back to a lot of Big Finish's stuff because the Doctor/Companion dynamic gets expanded, even though it doesn't have all the elements as the on-screen stuff. I think that this audio was a big influence on my love of Big Finish, so I would say that this one is a must listen. Any additional comments? I would have to point out that you probably shouldn't get this here. It's marked at 19.24 or 1 credit, so the cheapest you could get it is about 7 (unless you got a credit deal). All of Big Finish's first 50 releases, including this, are marled as only 2.99 to download because they have been out of print for quite some time. I really think that every Doctor Who fan should listen to this, but get it from Big Finish. It is a lot cheaper, and it means that all the money will go to them to make more audios. You will also get to check out some of their other releases whilst there, most of which are amazing. Davison is EXCELLENT in gripping origin story. Never tried a Big Finish story before- I prefer books to radio- but this might be the best Cyber story ever. I'm surprised it wasn't adapted for TV as it could be done in a contained setting and only gain from the claustrophobia. Never my favourite Dr, Davison is frankly amazing here and sells his incarnation better than on most TV episodes. And the cast are all top notch. The 'Christmas Tree' scene is one of the most touching in all the WHOniverse; you'd have to be part cyber yourself not to be touched by it. Highly Recommended. This will disgust, chill and terrify.
