Johann Christian KITTEL (18 February 1732 – 17 April 1809) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_... Kittel was born and died in Erfurt. He first studied with Jakob Adlung. He moved to Leipzig in 1748 where Kittel was a favorite - and the last - student of Johann Sebastian in the last two years of Bach's life. In 1751 Kittel was appointed organist and teacher in Langensalza, 1756 Kittel returned to Erfurt to become organist of the Barfüßerkirche. In 1762 Kittel moved to the Predigerkirche in Erfurt. Kittel refused many generous offers and stayed in Erfurt for the rest of his life. In 1790, Kittel received an invitation from Duchess Anna Amalia of Saxen-Weimar to travel to Italy, but Kittel stayed in Erfurt for the rest of his life. Kittel played many evening recitals there and became famous as a virtuoso organist, which you can hear in his Preludes, one of which has now been uploaded to YouTube. Goethe, Herder, and Wieland all went to his concerts to hear him play. Kittel made a concert tour to Hamburg in 1800. He stayed in Hamburg for a year to work on the chorale book for Schleswig-Holstein. Kittel was influenced by the contemporary gallant style. In that gallant style, the emphasis was on melody. It is extremely fascinating to listen to this Präludium in C major, where Kittel masterfully captures this Gallant ideal. Goethe, Herder en Wieland zij allen gingen naar zijn concerten om hem te horen spelen. Kittel maakte in 1800 een concerttournee naar Hamburg in 1800. Hij bleef er een jaar om aan het koraalboek voor Sleeswijk-Holstein te werken. Kittel werd beïnvloed door de hedendaagse galante stijl, In die galante stijl lag de nadruk op melodie. Het is boeiend om te luisteren naar zijn Präludien en in het bijzonder naar dit Präludium in C, waar Kittel het galante ideaal op meesterlijke wijze tot klinken weet te brengen.
