After a long day on the road visiting clients, The Crow checked in at Nkonkoni Fishing Camp A beautiful and rustic venue nestled within the Pongola Game Reserve in the beautiful Pongolapoort Biosphere. Close to the southern shores of the Pongolapoort (Jozini) Dam, in the Bird Sanctuary part of the Biosphere, and overlooks the western escarpment of the majestic Lebombo Mountains and the endless savannah woodland of northern Zululand. The Pongolapoort Dam, with its variety of wildlife, is referred to as a mini-Kariba. Some of the animals that may be seen include elephants, buffalo, rhino, leopards, giraffes and many species of antelope. The dam is home to hippos, crocodiles, and of course, the fighting TIGER FISH! The dam covers approximately 16 000 hectares with a river stretch of approximately 5km. Fishing takes place from the side and off boats and is around 1km from the chalets. The Crow settled for an evening session with bait as the wind picked up and he was limited with time. Fishing the shallows he got straight into the action and it was non-stop managing several proper barbels on light gear. These fish put up a decent accord on light gear and can be great fun for the entire family to target throughout the day.
