Retreating Democracy: Populism, Majoritarianism and Insularity | CSS IR 2022 | Current Affairs 2022|

This lecture succinctly elucidates what induced democracy to retreat in favor of newly evolving/resurging political frameworks. Whilst comprehensively explaining the underlying factors for democratic recession across the globe, it maintains that such events as the financial crunch of 2008, the rise of ultra-nationalist populist leaders all over the world, increasingly inward looking orientations of the otherwise non-insular and purely democratic societies and the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic are some of the tendencies bolstering the retreat of democracy and thereby culminating in democratic recession.
