NATURE!!! LIKE or SUBSCRIBE - I'd like for you to do either, I'd LOVE for you to do both! ASTICOU & JORDAN POND PATH is a relatively flat ~2.2 mi hike. On its own it is a lovely trail, as a function it connects Jordan Pond to PENOBSCOT MOUNTAIN TRAIL, AMPITHEATRE TRAIL, and SARGENT MOUNTAIN SOUTH RIDGE TRAIL as well as the Asticou section of the island outside the park. Behind Jordan Pond House, SPRING TRAIL descends to cross Jordan Stream at the south end of Jordan Pond. After the bridge, with a left turn this trail begins. A gravel path leads slowly downhill to a stream crossing. The trail then climbs, descends and climbs again... all mildly to an intersection with carriage roads. Here a return option or a side quest to AMPITHEATRE TRAIL are available via the carriage roads. Continuing, the first on trail trailhead branches off as PENOBSCOT MOUNTAIN TRAIL since 2004 extends an additional ~1.4 mi south. Ahead the terrain becomes mildly harder and as it crosses Little Harbor Brook over stones and passing Harbor Brook Trail (that exits the park) continues up multiple sets of small stone steps to Asticou Ridge Trail (which also exits the park). From here the hike continues over varied terrain with roots to SARGENT MOUNTAIN SOUTH RIDGE TRAIL, before climbing a small granite outcrop and itself exiting the park. On level gravel path and over wood bridges through young forest it arrives as Asticou Map House, a curious artifact from a bygone era. Exit to route 3 is via road or exploration of Asticou's Rockefeller gardens are options a short way from trail's end. I hope my efforts make your watching experience AND your next visit to ACADIA NATIONAL PARK ... wicked awesome! FRIENDLY REMINDER: no matter the difficulty, hiking has risks... HAVE A PLAN... the best times are had when planned properly. Alternate, shorter routes than what you intend to hike are abundant in Acadia... your hiking plan can include them as contingencies. Injuries can happen, let others know your planned route and timeframe... cell service is spotty in Acadia National Park. Remember: know your limits so you can push them, and DEFINITELY REMEMBER: what goes up must come down which includes you...
